Pistolet de peinture dans une simulation de réalité virtuelle

Client: Alstom

Date: 2016

Expertise: Custom Solutions

Training costs material, logistical, monetary, and time. Thus, it is a costly and time-consuming process to implement. Alstom, a leader in the railway industry, wanted to accelerate its industrial painting training with an innovative and stimulating tool. Therefore, the experts in painting will be able to train in a gamelike way while gaining competences. This tool can also be used for recruitment purposes, by testing the candidates' skills.

In partnership with the CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives), LS GROUP teams have developed an immersive industrial painting simulator. This application considers several parameters on painting or gestures to ensure supervised and guided learning: paint flow, layer thickness, trajectory, speed, angle, etc. Precise real-time analysis of each of these will monitor the operators' performance and detect areas for improvement. Moreover, to strengthen the realism of the solution, the simulator is combined with a real paint gun with a VR controller connected to it. Thus, a haptic and sound feedback module is activated each time the trigger of the gun is pressed, transcribing the action into virtual.
